At Storeys by Dawn Walsh, we care about your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we look after it, and the rights you have over it. We process personal data in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. Last updated: July 2026.
1. Who We Are
Storeys by Dawn Walsh is a hair salon located at 8 The Courtyard, Dean Clough, Halifax, HX3 5AX. For the purposes of data protection law, Storeys by Dawn Walsh is the data controller of the personal information described in this policy.
If you have any questions about this policy or your data, contact us at: [email protected] or 07722 102396.
2. What Information We Collect
We only collect information we genuinely need to look after you and your hair:
• Contact details — your name, phone number and email address, so we can manage and confirm your bookings.
• Appointment history — the services you've had with us, your stylist, and notes about your hair (such as colour formulas) so we can give you consistent results every visit.
• Health information relevant to your service — skin (patch) test records, allergies, scalp conditions, medication or pregnancy where you tell us it is relevant to a treatment. This is 'special category' data and we treat it with extra care.
• Payment information — records of payments and deposits. Card payments are processed securely by our payment provider; we never see or store your full card details.
• Website and booking data — if you book online, our booking system collects the details you enter. Our website may also use cookies (see section 8).
• Photographs — photos or videos of your hair, only ever taken and shared with your permission.
3. How We Use Your Information
• To book, confirm, reschedule and remind you about appointments.
• To keep accurate colour records and skin test records so your services are safe and consistent.
• To take deposits and payments.
• To respond to your enquiries, feedback or complaints.
• To send you marketing (such as offers or news), but only if you've opted in — and you can opt out at any time.
• To showcase our work on our website and social media, only with your consent.
4. Our Legal Bases for Using Your Data
Under UK GDPR, we rely on the following legal bases:
• Contract — processing needed to provide the services you book with us.
• Legal obligation — keeping records we're required to keep, such as accounting records and skin test records for insurance purposes.
• Legitimate interests — running our salon effectively, for example keeping notes of your preferences and appointment history.
• Consent — for marketing messages, photographs of your hair, and health information you share with us. You can withdraw consent at any time.
5. Who We Share Your Data With
We never sell your personal information. We only share it with trusted service providers who help us run the salon, and only to the extent needed:
• Our online booking and salon management system.
• Our payment processor for card payments and deposits.
• Our website platform, email provider and Google Analytics (website statistics).
• Our accountant and insurers, where legally necessary.
These providers are only permitted to use your data to provide their services to us, and are required to keep it secure. Where any provider stores data outside the UK, we make sure appropriate safeguards recognised under UK GDPR are in place.
6. How Long We Keep Your Data
• Client records and colour/skin test history: kept while you remain a client.
• Financial records: kept for 6 years as required by HMRC.
• Marketing preferences: until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you.
• Photographs: until you ask us to take them down.
7. How We Keep Your Data Safe
Your information is stored securely in our salon management system, protected by passwords and access controls, and only accessible to team members who need it to do their job.
8. Cookies
Our website uses cookies — small files stored on your device — to make the site work properly, and Google Analytics cookies to help us understand how visitors use the site (such as which pages are most popular). Google Analytics collects information in a way that does not directly identify you. You
can accept or decline analytics cookies via the cookie notice on our site, and you can control or delete cookies at any time through your browser settings. To opt out of Google Analytics across all websites, visit tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
9. Your Rights
You have the right to:
• Access — ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
• Rectification — ask us to correct anything that's inaccurate or incomplete.
• Erasure — ask us to delete your data, where we have no legal reason to keep it.
• Restriction — ask us to limit how we use your data in certain circumstances.
• Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests, and to direct marketing at any
time.
• Portability — receive the data you gave us in a usable format.
• Withdraw consent — at any time, where consent is our basis for processing.
To exercise any of these rights, just contact us using the details in section 1. We'll respond within
one month. There's no charge for a reasonable request.
10. Marketing
We'll only send you marketing messages if you've said yes. Every message includes a simple way to unsubscribe, or you can just tell us at your next appointment and we'll take you off the list.
11. Children
Where our clients are under 18, we hold their information with the knowledge and consent of a parent or guardian, who books and attends on their behalf.
12. Complaints
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, please talk to us first — we'll do our best to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be published on this page.
